Dennis Paul Helgeson Obituary

Dennis Paul Helgeson, 74, of Fort Worth, Texas, 76179 fell asleep in the arms of his beloved wife Joyce, who handed him over to the Lord in the early morning hours of January 3, 2026.


Rosary: 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Bigger’s Funeral Chapel with visitation to follow 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.


Mass of the Resurrection: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “The Advancement Foundation/ One Family” in honor of Dennis for One Family Campaign St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.


Dennis Paul Helgeson was born on July 8, 1951, in Los Angeles, California to Raymond Carl Helgeson and Inez Marie Turgeon.


Dennis was a beloved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, grandfather, uncle and godfather to many and will be remembered for his Love of God and the catholic church, and his smart, funny and witty sense of humor.


Dennis grew up in Long Beach, California and attended St. Lucy’s grammar school then Our Lady Queen of the Angels seminary in San Fernando, California until the 11th grade and finished High School at St. Anthony’s in Long Beach, California in 1969. Dennis Worked for Douglas Aircraft in the early side of Internet Technology (IT).He was very good at analyzing problems, installing and troubleshooting problems of IT when he worked for Speery Technology and the Railroad. He joined the Navy and was stationed in Guam doing communications.


His careers/jobs gave him the opportunity to travel from Seattle to the east coast. Although he traveled the country, he was always very humble. Finally, he settled in Fort Worth, Texas in 1997. He met the love of his life Joyce Selvitella in 2000 and they married in 2003.


Dennis became a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church where he helped start the Bible Study group, taught baptism prep and Confirmation classes. He volunteered for the Diocese of Fort Worth- Tribunal. He attended yearly youth conferences and went to Panama with the youth in 2019.


Dennis Helgeson maintained a longstanding and active involvement with the Knights of Columbus. He joined Council 10930 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in 1997 and served in various capacities, including as Grand Knight from 2000 to 2002. That same year, Dennis achieved 4th Degree status and became a member of General Worth Assembly #1089. His dedication extended to serving for many years in Knights leadership positions including Chapter Treasurer for the Western Metroplex (Fort Worth Diocese), leading the Major Degree Team for the Fort Worth Diocese, and participating as a State Charity Committee member.


Dennis contributed to the support of religious vocations through membership in the Serra Club of Fort Worth.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Carl Helgeson and Inez Marie Turgeon and his sister, Jeanine Helgeson Rhoades.


Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Selvitella Helgeson; brothers, Raymond Helgeson (Donna), Richard Helgeson (Neeter), Steve Helgeson (Janet); sisters, Rosemary McClain (Coolidge), Anita Sanborn (Brett); brother-in-law, Jim Rhoades; son, Jason McDonald; daughters, Dina Gabbart (Chris) and Joanna Lynn Wilson (Steve); he was also a Pop to Robert, Ryan, Melina Magnolia, and Kaylee; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and he was blessed with many godchildren.


God’s gift of love to Dennis and Joyce was Krista, Riley, Sadie, Avery and Godson Joseph Paul.
