Donald R. McColley, resident of New Baltimore, passed away peacefully in his daughter’s home, surrounded by the love of his family, on January 3, 2026. He was 99 years of age.
Donald was born on September 23, 1926 in Gladwin, Michigan, son of the late Clarence and Etta (Peters) McColley. He served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. Don dedicated over 45 years of his life to his work as a skilled sign maker, a trade that reflected his creativity, precision, and strong work ethic.
Don enjoyed the great outdoors and found much joy in fishing and hunting. He loved getting out on the golf course and always appreciated a good game of poker. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time in the yard gardening alongside his daughter, Karen.
After his retirement, Don remained active and busy, often found in his garage crafting a variety of wooden creations. He took great pride in his woodworking and looked forward to garage sales where he enjoyed selling his birdhouses and other handcrafted works of art. His hands were rarely still, and his passion for creating brought him great satisfaction.
Above all, Don was devoted to his family and treasured the time spent in their company. He will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Donald is survived by his daughters, Karen Brouillard and Sandra (Howard) Gregg; his grandchildren, Carlie Addison, Howard C. Gregg, Andrew Brouillard, and Justin Gregg. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Kevin McColley.
A Celebration of Donald’s Life will be held at a later date.
