Edwin Joseph Songy, III, a revered family man and respected businessman, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Metairie, Louisiana, at the age of 87. Born on November 24, 1938, in the historic city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

A graduate of Holy Cross High School, Edwin furthered his education by attending Louisiana State University. Edwin's professional journey was marked by dedication and hard work. He spent a rewarding 25 years at General Electric before embarking on a successful entrepreneurial venture with his close friend Norman Joseph. Together, they co-owned and operated Ideal Appliance Parts, a business that thrived for 30 years under their partnership.

Edwin's life was enriched by his love for the great outdoors, hunting, and fishing. His passion for sports was equally profound, as he ardently supported his hometown teams— New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Pelicans, and LSU. His adventurous spirit was matched only by his loving nature, both of which left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Family was the cornerstone of Edwin's life. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 60 years, Ulyanaise Aupied Songy, who predeceased him. Together, they built a family anchored in love and mutual respect. Edwin is survived by his children, Christopher Joseph Songy (Rita) and Michelle Songy Heider (Marshall); his cherished granddaughter, Brittany Renee Songy; and his siblings, Cynthia Sepulvado and Bruce Joseph Songy (Lia), along with many adoring nieces and nephews. His son, Scott Michael Songy, and his parents, Edwin J. Songy, Jr., and Alicia Soto Songy, preceded him in death.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Edwin's caregivers for their unwavering dedication and compassion. Michelle, Ms. Loretta, Nakeisha (Keisha), Lakeisha (Chops), and Taki were more than caregivers; they became an integral part of Edwin's extended family, providing comfort and laughter in his final years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, on Monday, January 12, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow the visitation at 1:00 PM. The burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
