Rayma Jean Newman (80) of Cheboygan died January 3, 2026 at Medilodge, Cheboygan following a lingering illness.
A life long resident of Cheboygan, Rayma was born Jan 15, 1945. The daughter of William and Florence (Olson) Newman. Rayma graduated from Cheboygan High School and went on to work for the State of Michigan in the Department of Health and Human Services until her retirement.
In her youth, Rayma played fast pitch softball for the Cheboygan Rag Tags, winning a state title in 1973. She was also an avid bowler. Rayma enjoyed following high school sports, the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Lions and other sports teams. Rayma loved going to bingo and taking trips to the casino.
Surviving family is Shirley (Newman) Tornovish of Cadillac, William (Sue) Newman of Missouri, Gary (Marva) Newman of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
Rayma was a member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church and the Cheboygan Eagles Club.

Celebration of life will be held this spring with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cheboygan.
