Paula Walker Krueger, the epitome of elegance, intelligence, opinionated wit, and boundless curiosity, passed from this life on January 3, 2026, age 80, in Kyle, Texas, with her beloved husband and daughter holding her hands, and her sons close by on the phone. Born on October 29, 1945, in Pasadena, Texas, she moved through the world guided by an infectious love of learning, gently shared through thoughtful tidbits of little-known knowledge and the occasional, carefully offered grammar correction.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Jim, the love of her life; her sons, Michael (Jenna) and Barrett, who she cherished and was deeply proud of; and her only daughter, Meredith (Pete), whom she adored and who was a constant companion and loving presence. She was an extraordinary Nana and a proud grandmother to 6 granddaughters—Jordan (Andrew), Madeline (Jonathan), Raegan, Genevieve, Elise, and Savanna – and 1 grandson, Weston. She is also survived by her sister, Beth; her brother, Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Walker; her mother, Ruth Dodge; her stepfather, Henry Higgins; her mother-in-law, Katie; her sister, Madelyn; her first husband, Harold Nassif, the father of her son Michael; and, most especially, her beloved grandson, Maxwell, whose memory remained close to her heart.
A lifelong learner, Paula graduated from Pasadena High School before returning to the classroom later in life to fulfill a long-held goal. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin at the age of sixty, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in History—a milestone that reflected her determination and her enduring love of learning.
Paula found deep satisfaction in pursuits that drew her fully into the moment, often losing track of the days altogether. She loved cooking and baking for those she cared for, especially teaching her granddaughters to bake, creating dozens of cookies at Christmas, tending her plants with patience and pride, practicing needlework and crocheting with care and creativity, and losing herself in a good book. She also took great pleasure in jewelry and personal style, favoring timeless pieces and a sense of enduring elegance, always believing in looking her best. Even if only going to her many doctors’ appointments.
Above all else, Paula will be remembered for how deeply she cherished her role as Nana—a role that brought her great joy and purpose, and one she carried with patience, generosity, and love. Her sharp mind, enduring curiosity, and deep commitment to family shaped a well-lived life, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, near and far.
The family would like to thank all the of the doctors who attended to her, but especially Dr. Allensworth – Ascension Seton Kyle, Dr. Jonathan Posey and Rebecca – Hays Primary Care and Dr. Kit Fox – NeuroTexas for keeping her together for all these years.
Visitation, rosary and services will be on Monday, January 12, 2026 starting at 4:00pm, rosary at 5:30pm and funeral service at 6:00pm at Harrell Funeral Home, 1715 Kirby Lane, Kyle, TX 78640.
