Amber Leighann Norwood, a beloved daughter, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, in Jacksonville, NC, at the age of 54. Born on May 18, 1971, in Santa Clara, CA, Amber dedicated her life to serving others as a mental health and substance abuse counselor. Her compassionate nature and empathetic spirit were hallmarks of her career and personal life.
Amber found joy in traveling, with a special fondness for the vibrant city of New Orleans, and had a deep love for the beach. Her creative spirit shone through in her knitting and crocheting, and she delighted in sharing her handmade creations with those around her.
A devoted mother and cherished "Mae Mae" to her granddaughter Zuri Campbell, Amber was a source of love and support to her family. She is survived by her son, Robert Wells, and daughters, Mikayla Wells and Jordan Shears, all residing in Jacksonville. Her mother Linda Beck (David) of Shelby, NC, brother, Donald "Clint" Norwood of Shelby, NC, along with her aunts Norma Jean, Doris, Susie, Tammy, and Becky, will dearly miss her presence as will Regina and her other cousins. Her lifelong friendship with Leslie Starnes of Gastonia, NC, was a testament to the deep connections she formed throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Norwood.
