Tyrus Woodard Obituary
Tyrus was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina in 1946 to Tyrus Martin and Olelia Woodard.
Tyrus passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, January 3, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Doris Hamm.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Susan Woodard; daughter, Michele (Kenneth)Tellez; son, Anthony (Deanna Denney) Woodard and grandson, Antonio Tellez.
Tyrus’ passion for teaching and helping grow young students and athletes was evident in his 49 years of teaching and coaching at Hampton High School, Poquoson High School, Kecoughtan High School and San Diego County Schools (Lincoln, Patrick Henry) and also local colleges.
Tyrus was a devoted follower of Christ, adoring husband, and a father/grandaddy who loved without reservation.
A celebration of life will be held at Courthouse Community United Methodist Church (2708 Princess Ann Rd, Virginia Beach VA 23456) on Saturday January 17, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
The family will receive guest in the home (3017 Egyptian Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23456) after the celebration of life.
