Sophia Irene Hardy, 93, of Tobyhanna, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst, surrounded by love.

Born in Cresco, PA, Sophia was the cherished daughter of the late Lawrence Clifford Hardy and Alieda (Beck) Hardy. From an early age, she carried a deep affection for all living creatures—a quality that shaped her entire life.

A devoted mother and animal lover, Sophia’s heart was never without room for her beloved fur‑babies and grand‑fur‑babies. She shared an especially tender bond with Max Sunshine and Joby, who brought her endless joy and whose lives were brightened by the love of their Grammy. Her kindness, warmth, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Sophia was preceded in death by her sister, Louisa Pelella; her brother, Lawrence Douglas Hardy; and her treasured Yorkie, Moppet, who was faithfully by her side for many years.

She leaves behind her daughters, Kathleen Lynch and husband Joseph, and Diane Leonard and husband William; her sister, Joyce Novak; and many nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close.

Funeral services to honor and celebrate Sophia’s life will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Holy Trinity Parish, 236 Route 390, Cresco, PA 18326, The family will receive friends and family from 9:30AM until the time of mass.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and caregivers of Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore and St. Mary’s Villa for the compassion, dignity, and comfort they provided during Sophia’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Township, PA 18471, or to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William Street, Dunmore, PA 18510—organizations that reflect Sophia’s lifelong love and generosity.
