David Gerard Goricki, age 64, of Ypsilanti, MI, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Trinity Health Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI. after battling cancer. He was born November 11, 1961, in Kalamazoo, MI, son of Richard Jacob & Evelyn Joyce (Ferrel) Goricki. He graduated from Hackett Catholic Prep High School, class of 1979. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Communications from Western Michigan University and went on to work his dream job as a Sportswriter at the Detroit News for over 30 years. He was versatile, reporting on everything and anything including: The Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, WNBA Finals, Motor Sports, and College and High School Sports. Dave was very passionate and proud of his work— so much so, that he worked all the way until his last days. He made meaningful connections and friends throughout his career, and had a knack for finding a story. For hobbies, Dave was a movie buff and loved writing film scripts on his 1980’s word processor. He enjoyed vacationing with family and friends and being in the sun: especially at the beach. Dave lived and breathed sports— not only in his career but his everyday life. He was a social person and knew a friend anywhere he went. Dave especially loved Karaoke and often was caught dancing on tables. Most of all, he was a true family guy and nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time with his family and friends.

Dave is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 40 years, Becky, triplets: Alexander (Andrea) Goricki of Adrian, MI, Adam (Taylor) Goricki of Monroe, MI, and Austin (Alex) Goricki, of Belleville, MI; three grandsons: Giovanni, Brooks, and Hayes; his mother Evelyn Munther of Florida, three brothers: Mark (Patricia) Goricki of Wilmington, NC, Paul (Stanze) Goricki of Jacksonville, FL, and Rick (Tina) Goricki of Stevensville, MI, also numerous nieces, nephews, colleagues, readers, and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his father Richard J. Goricki, also a brother, Steven Goricki.

Dave will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM Thursday, January 8, 2026, at David C. Brown Funeral Home, 460 E. Huron River Dr., Belleville, MI 48111-2764 (734)697-4500. A Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 PM Friday, January 9, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 9425 Whittaker Road, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. The family will greet guests from 12 noon until the mass begins.
