Mary Jane Newman (née Hitchings), age 101, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026. She was born in Royal Oak Township and was a life long resident of Royal Oak, Michigan.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Newman, and by her parents, Russell and Stella Hitchings. She is survived by many dear friends who cherished her companionship and kind spirit.
Mary Jane had a deep love for travel and especially treasured her time spent on Mackinac Island, a place that brought her great joy and lasting memories.
Visitation will take place on Friday (January 9th) at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, Michigan 48084, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A short service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A processional will then proceed to White Chapel Cemetery, where an additional short service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Royal Oak First United Methodist Church.
