Ronald Daniel Notarainni, a devoted family man, proud veteran, and beloved mentor, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 3rd, 2026, at the age of 78. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 8th, 1947 to the late Amelio and Virginia Notarainni, Ron's life was a testament to service, passion, and unwavering dedication.
After graduating from Cooley High School, Ron answered the call to duty, bravely serving his country in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. His military service instilled in him a profound commitment to his fellow veterans, a cause he championed steadfastly throughout his life.
Following his honorable discharge, Ron embarked on a successful career as a manufacturer sales representative, building his own business with characteristic drive. Yet, it was off the clock, on the fields and in the halls of Seaholm High School, where his true calling shone brightest. For over 40 years, Ron poured his heart into coaching and mentoring, becoming a cherished figure who positively impacted hundreds of students. His guidance, wisdom, and unwavering belief in their potential left an indelible mark on generations.
Ron's greatest joy was his family. His happiest times were being surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his loving daughter, Gretchen Hartwig, and her husband Brian; and his devoted son, Anthony Notarainni, and his wife Lauren. He was the proud and adoring grandfather to Paige, Hailey, Brock, and Taylor Hartwig, and Adam, Riley, and Jack Notarainni, who will forever cherish his memory. Ron also leaves behind his brother, James Notarainni, and his wife Nancy; sister-in-law, Cindy Notarainni; nephews, Scott (Karen) and Mark (Romina) Notarainni; and nieces, Lynn Notarainni, Karen (George) McCracken, and Jamie (Evan) Bockover, along with many grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Amelio and Virginia, and his brother, Thomas Notarainni.
A visitation will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 10th, followed by a funeral service at 12 PM, both taking place in the auditorium at Seaholm High School, 2436 W Lincoln St, Birmingham, MI 48009.
