Cheryl Lynch-Romano Obituary

Cheryl Lynch-Romano, beloved wife, sister, and friend, passed away on Saturday January 3, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on July 29, 1952, in Braintree, Massachusetts, Cheryl was the cherished daughter of the late Claire (Hayden) Lynch and Edward W. Lynch.

Cheryl grew up in Braintree alongside her siblings, Janice Lynch of Pembroke, Massachusetts, and Brian Lynch of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. Cheryl’s life was defined by love, laughter, and a deep commitment to others.

Fifty-one years ago, fate brought Cheryl together with her husband, Joseph L. Romano, at Model United Nations (MUN) in New York City. Their bond blossomed into a marriage that endured for 48 years, a partnership filled with devotion, adventure, and joy. Together they shared countless memories, including summers on Nantucket, where Cheryl spent 40 years and treasured her home for 17 of them. Her constant companion and dearest love, her pet Suzhou, remained faithfully by her side for 23 years.

Cheryl attended Bridgewater State College, where she was crowned homecoming queen and earned her degree in psychology. She dedicated 25 years to the field of mental health as a recreation therapist in Ohio and Pennsylvania, touching countless lives with her compassion and wisdom. Later, she pursued her passion for antique jewelry, sharing her eye for beauty with others.

Her generosity extended far beyond her career. Cheryl supported children’s charities in Pennsylvania and Nantucket, ensuring that young lives were nurtured and uplifted. She was especially devoted to Small Friends on Nantucket, an early education and daycare program that reflected her lifelong commitment to caring for children.

A woman of boundless energy and curiosity, Cheryl traveled to six continents and visited 75 countries. She completed two marathons, loved to exercise, hike, and spend time at the beach. Her hobbies—collecting antique jewelry, painting, and quilting—were expressions of her creativity and appreciation for life’s treasures.

Above all, Cheryl will be remembered for her kindness, her radiant smile, and her overwhelming laugh. She had an extraordinary gift for making others feel loved and valued, and her unwavering commitment to showing compassion touched everyone she encountered.

She leaves behind her devoted husband Joe, her siblings Janice and Brian (Mary), nieces Elizabeth & Kimmy, and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
