Durwood White was born June 17, 1938, into a large family in rural North Carolina and went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2026.
Durwood was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ann; his parents; and his many brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sons, Jonathan and Joel; grandchildren, Victoria, Spencer, Donovan, Margaret, Isaac, Claire and Madeline; and great grandchildren, Zachary, Axel and Braelynn.
While in Huntsville on an internship he met his future bride Ann Harris Uptain. They married in 1959 and lived in North Carolina while he finished his degree. Upon graduation they moved to Huntsville to begin his career as a chemist for Thiokol. After some years he felt a calling and transitioned to a career of ministry and missions with Campus Crusade for Christ, dedicating himself to spreading the gospel to everyone he touched. He had a great passion for music and, with Ann on the piano, loved to sing and perform in churches and revivals out of Jacksonville, FL and Houston, Tx. They performed on many recordings and productions for the TurnerSong Christian record label. He retired back to Huntsville where he was a prolific author and an Elder at Central Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He was eagerly anticipating his first cup of coffee in Heaven, so please enjoy a cup (or two) here on Earth in his memory.
Visitation will be at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 12 to 2 pm with a private family graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery following, the Rev. Dan Kish officiating.
