A funeral service for Calla Monet Parsons, age 20, of Newark will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 N. Fifth Street, Newark. Burial will follow in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery, Thornville.
Calling hours will be held from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday, January 9 at the funeral home.
Calla was born on June 22, 2005, in Newark, Ohio. She passed away on January 3, 2026, due to medical complications related to diabetes.
Calla was a 2023 graduate of Newark High School and went on to attend Ohio University. Calla was working as a pharmacy technician at Kroger, a job she truly loved. She was a devoted “Swiftie,” she found great connection through Taylor Swift’s music. Calla was deeply aware of the world around her and was a strong advocate for those who did not fit society’s mold. She was always standing up for fairness and human rights. She had an infectious smile, a fiery spirit, and was never afraid to speak up for others. Calla’s life was far too short, but her courage, kindness, and passion left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She is survived by her mother, Erin Wells; father and step-mother, Glenn Parsons and Nicole Brown; two brothers, Homer Parsons and Jackson Wise; a step-sister, Madyson Terry; maternal grandmother and grandfather, Anna “Lea” and Tracy Wells; great-grandmother, Sara Wells; paternal uncles and aunts, Chad and Holly Parsons and Chala Ferguson, cousins including, Dawson Mecum, Dade Parsons, Lily Parsons, and Lincoln Parsons; many great aunts, great uncles, cousins and close friends.
Calla was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Dave and Terri Parsons; great-grandparents, Ruth and James White; Helen and Ralph Parsons, Mary and Gene Brown and Glenn Wells.
