Mrs. Culpeper was born in Sycamore, AL on December 14, 1937, to Joseph and Maude Freeman. She graduated from Talladega High School where she was a majorette. Charlotte married Arthur “Hugh” Culpeper in 1961. They moved to Tappahannock, VA in 1964 where they live for over 40 years before moving back to Talladega in 2003. Mrs. Culpeper worked as a bookkeeper for Essex County Board of Education, and she retired from there in 2002 after almost 30 years of service. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her primary focus throughout her life was caring for her family, and she loved the Freeman family annual gatherings on Cheaha Mountain where she enjoyed being surrounded by multiple generations sharing stories, food, and music. She was well known for her astounding cooking ability, especially her delicious breakfasts. Charlotte was everyone’s favorite aunt, and she deeply loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her “Granny”.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Hugh Culpeper; parents, Joseph and Maude Freeman; sisters, Peggy Tolleson, Ellen Barnes, and Betty Dean, and brother, Gene Freeman.

Mrs. Culpeper is survived by her son, Alan Culpeper (Lynn); grandchildren, Amber Cooper (Austin) and Justin Culpeper; great-grandchildren, Braxton Cooper and Gavin Hudgins; sisters, Madeline Freeman, Jenny Bowers, and Mary Jo Barnes, and a host of nieces and nephews.
