Norman Eugene Childers, 67, formerly of Herrin, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026 at his sister’s home in Pittsburg, IL.

Norman worked as an Auto Mechanic for Volger Ford in Carbondale for 28 years.

Norman was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

Norman’s passion was fishing mostly for catfish, bass, and crappie.

Norman was a member of the Zeigler Eagles and the Orient American Legion Post 1961.

Norman was born January 11, 1958 in Christopher, Illinois to Norman W. & Ruby Ellen (Summers) Childers.

Norman married Mary E. Jeffrey on February 14, 1992 in Herrin, Illinois. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2015.

He is survived by his daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Janet & Steve Davis of Pittsburg, IL and Melody Earnhart of Du Quoin, IL; brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy & Kay Ingersoll of Herrin, IL.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; ten brothers and sisters, Roger, Jackie, Betty Lou, Ronnie, Joann, Buddy, Donald, Victoria, Jerry and Alice.

Norman wishes were to be cremated; a memorial graveside service with military rites performed by Orient American Legion Post #1961 will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2026 at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Don Colson officiating.
