Verna Mae Olivier Obituary

CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2026 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Verna Mae Olivier, age 89, who passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026 at her residence in Carencro.

Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Christopher Cambre, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Reader will be Dr. Amanda Rogers. Giftbearers will be Carrie Angelle and Julie Olivier.

Verna Mae, affectionately known as “Ta-Toot,” was the steadfast anchor of her family and friends. Strong, caring, and guided by a true servant’s heart, she was the person others turned to for help, comfort, and wisdom. Rarely one to sit still, she loved being on the go taking road trips with family and friends and faithfully enjoying her monthly Pokeno games.

Though she slowed down slightly in recent years, she still cherished lunches out with friends and, of course, trips to the casino. A lifelong resident of Carencro, Verna Mae was a devoted parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, where she could often be found on Saturday mornings in the back pew, praying her rosary. She was married to the love of her life, Emer “EJ,” for sixty-seven years before his passing in 2019.

Survivors include two sons, Carl James Olivier of Vatican, and Todd Anthony Olivier and his wife, Kelly, of Carencro; five grandchildren, Carrie O. Angelle and her husband, Nick, of Breaux Bridge, Julie Olivier and her husband, Jake Buckley, of Breaux Bridge, Cody Olivier and his wife, Allison, of Vicksburg, MS, Michael Olivier and his wife, Jamie, of Carencro, and Dr. Amanda O. Rogers and her husband, Clint, of Bourg; ten great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Mandelle Benoit, Lillian Prejean, and Cecile Albert.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-seven years, E.J. Olivier; mother, Anna Begnaud Benoit Guilbeau; father, Vianny Benoit; stepfather, George Guilbeau; and brother, Nolan Benoit.

A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Michael Olivier, Stacy Benoit, Marty Duplechain, Chad Menard, Chance Fontenot, and Trey Olivier. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Gendron, Scott Duplechain, Kade Olivier, Blaine Benoit, and Cody Olivier.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Our Lady of Lourdes for their kindness and care during these last few weeks. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Joseph Brierre for being her rock when she needed one. He became more than her doctor but truly a friend.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.
