Louise P. Solomita, of Kingston, died unexpectedly on January 3, 2026, and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Louise was born on November 13, 1936, along with her twin sister Lorraine, to Salvatore and Mary Savignano. A child of Italian immigrants, she grew up in a world of love, laughter, food and family. She lived her childhood years in Chelsea MA, graduating from Chelsea HS in 1954 before continuing on to Bentley School of Accounting and Finance, where only ten percent of her class were women.
At 16 she met Anthony Solomita, who was the only man she ever dated and the love of her life. They were married in 1958. In their early years she worked as a bookkeeper, but her primary devotion became her roles as homemaker and eventually, loving mother to Anne, Jim and Lauren. Louise and Tony couldn’t wait to start a family of their own, and their children meant the world to them.
Starting their life in Saugus, her husband’s career path brought moves to Holden, MA and then to Bedford, MA. Along the way, Louise was a devoted volunteer for the kids’ activities and she had a special gift for making lifelong friendships no matter where they moved. Her kids’ friends thought of her as a second mom, and she loved them as well.
Louise loved painting, reading and doing puzzles, but her favorite role was that of being a grandmother. She treasured her time with her grandkids and loved being their Grammy. She had a special talent for cooking, embodying the Italian traditions and passing them along to her daughters and later to her grandkids. Her meatballs and eggplant parm were legendary.
Louise’s later years brought her and Tony to Cape Cod, where a love of the beach brought many great memories in retirement. After the death of her beloved husband, Louise moved to Kingston, MA, where she began the 2nd phase of her senior years living with family.
Louise will always be remembered for her silliness and ability to make everyone laugh. We’ll imagine hearing her say her favorite phrase, “You’ll always laugh with your mother,” a fact she proved every day.
Louise’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Anthony, her twin sister Lorraine Magazzu, and her other siblings, Nicolette DeFeo, Fred Savignano, RoseMarie Brandano and MaryAnn Giannasca, and is survived by cherished sisters-in-law RoseMarie Spurr and Sharon Solomita. She is also survived by her children Anne Rascoe and her husband Thomas Rascoe of Queensbury, NY, James Solomita and his husband Douglas Watson of Kingston, MA, and Lauren Mello and her husband Matthew Mello of Kingston, MA. Her grandchildren Maria Mello of Plymouth, MA, Kathryn Rascoe of Brooklyn, NY, Toni Mello of Brooklyn, NY and Matthew Mello of Kingston, MA are brokenhearted by her loss, as are many nieces, nephews and extended family.
We couldn’t have asked for a better mom, grammy, sister, aunt, or friend.
