East Providence - Patricia A. Salisbury,82, affectionately known as Pat to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in East Providence, Rhode Island. Born on August 7, 1943, in Providence, RI, to the late Anthony and Mary (Cabral) Gouveia, Pat's life was a testament to her loving, kind, and selfless nature.
Pat spent over a decade serving the community at Rhode Island Hospital in the patient information department, a role that reflected her caring personality and her dedication to helping others. Her commitment to service was further evidenced by her active participation in her church, St. Francis Xavier, where she was a parishioner.
In her personal life, Pat was the cherished wife of the late Carl Salisbury, with whom she shared a life of love and partnership. She was a loving mother to Craig McWhinnie and his wife Melissa of Harrisville, RI, and Melissa Johnson and her husband Skip of East Providence. Though she was predeceased by her son Kevin McWhinnie, her legacy of love continues through her children. Pat's brother, Alan Gouveia of Johnston, also survives her, and she held a special place in her heart for her dear cats, Reesie and Diogi.
Pat's role as a grandmother and great-grandmother brought her immense joy. She was blessed with a beautiful lineage, including her grandchildren Kaitlyn McWhinnie, Stephanie Fricke, Kayla McWhinnie, and Brooke Gibbs, as well as her great-grandchildren Madison McWhinnie, Savannah Fricke, Owen Fricke, Wyatt Fricke, Alex Gibbs, and Noah Gibbs. Each of them will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness in their own lives.
Throughout her 15 years living in East Providence, after moving from North Carolina and Seekonk, Pat cultivated a life rich in experiences and joy. She had a passion for bowling, an enthusiasm for the excitement of a casino, and a talent for knitting, creating countless memories and cherished keepsakes for her loved ones.
Pat's radiant spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many, including her numerous nieces and nephews, who will remember her as a beacon of warmth and compassion. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will be a treasure that continues to inspire and comfort her family and friends.
