Bessie Adkins, 95 of Harts, WV, departed this life on January 3, 2026 at her residence.

She was born January 12, 1930 in Logan, WV the daughter of the late Russel Dempsey and Ida Frazier.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandparents, William Anderson Dempsey, Harriet Hicks, Youngea Frazier and Oma Adkins, sisters, Ruby Blankenship, Garnet White, Gladys Porter, and Mabel Nelson, brothers, Walter Dempsey and Ray Dempsey, her father-in-law, John Adkins and her mother-in-law, Norma Staley Adkins Richards.

Bessie enjoyed attending church, traveling, visiting every state but Alaska and Hawaii. She also enjoyed art, journaling, going to the flea market, collecting and cornbread and beans.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 70 years, Dewey Adkins; daughter, Deborah & Clifford Vance; grandchildren, Clifford Matthew & Kasandra Vance and Joshua Lee & Patty Vance; and her great grandchildren, Leland Brady Vance, Gentry Lee Vance, Joseph Levi Vance and Lauren MaKayla Vance.

The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice, Harts Senior Citizen Center, Ranger Full Gospel Church, Bob Vance, Rick Conley and All the friends and family who visited, brought food and called.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, January 12, 2026 at Freeman Funeral Home with Dennie Evans, Matthew Vance, Joshua Vance officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Clifford Matthew Vance, Joshua Vance, Brady Vance, Gentry Vance, Joseph Vance, Lauren Vance, Terry Egnor and Jerry Egnor.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
