Philip J. Maguire, Jr. 90, of Atlantic City, formerly a long-time resident of Brigantine, passed away on Saturday January 3, 2026. Phil was born in Atlantic City. He was the third of seven children of the late Philip and Nora (Wallace) Maguire. Phil attended the Richmond Ave and Our Lady Star of the Sea Elementary Schools and he attended Holy Spirit and Atlantic City High Schools, graduating in 1953.


Phil joined the US Marine Corps in October of 1953. He served honorably for 3 years and was discharged as Corporal in October of 1956. While in the Marines, at Camp Lejeune, he was a champion swimmer. His company won the 2nd Marine Division Swimming title. He was unbeaten in the 50-yard freestyle and anchor man on the rely team.

Phil was transferred to the Marine Barracks at 8th and I Streets in Washington D.C. While there he was assigned to guard Camp David and President Eisenhower. He served many details at Arlington National Cemetery, the White House and at the dedication of the Iwo Jima Flag raising statue in November of 1954. He was then transferred to Camp Gieger for more combat training. Phil was cleared for top secret assignments and finished his career as a guard at the Naval Photo Center in Anacostia.


Phil was employed at Atlantic City Electric for over 30 years. He was a lineman and retired as shift supervisor at the offices in Egg Harbor Township.


Phil was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 396 in Brigantine. He was also a member of the Brigantine VFW Post 6964 and he was a life member of the Brigantine Elks Lodge 2428. Phil enjoyed fishing and bar-tending at the American Legion and the Elks Lodge


Phil is beloved husband of the late Cecile Maguire and he is survived by his daughter Catherine “Cathy” Maguire and his son Philip Maguire, III. He is also survived by his grandchildren Casey, Ashley, Shane, his great-grandchildren Izzy, Eli, Melani and his sisters Joan Bray (Jack), Roseanne Maloney and his brother James Maguire (Young).


In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Mary Kiska and his brothers Thomas and John Maguire.


Relatives and friends are invited to the Life Celebration and Visitation for Phil on Saturday January 17, 2026 from 11 to 12 Noon at the Keates-Plum Funeral Home, 3112 W. Brigantine Ave Brigantine. Military Honors provided by the Last Salute Military Honor Guard will follow the visitation.
