Melvin L. Schlater, formerly of Vandalia and Troy, OH, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Pinebrook in Milford, OH. He was born on February 4, 1939 in North Star, OH to the late Clem W. and Genora M. (Koverman) Schlater. 

Melvin is survived by three children: Tim (Lori) Schlater of Ludlow Falls, OH, Michael (Cheryl) Schlater of West Chester, OH and Anne (Mark) Pearson of Milford, OH; seven grandchildren: Shannon Clark, Sean Schlater, Andrew, Lauren and Jacob Pearson, and Isabella and Gabriella Schlater; three great grandchildren: Sloan and Sydney Clark and Darcy Schlater; siblings: Kenneth Schlater, Donald (Margaret) Schlater, Betty (Paul) Sherman; sister-in-law: Velma Schlater; brother-in-law: Paul Braun and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse of 60 years of marriage: Patricia R. (Gross) Schlater; brothers: Ed, Earl and Louis Schlater and sister: Marilyn J. Braun.

Melvin was a 1957 graduate of Versailles High School and a graduate of Sinclair College. He was formerly employed with General Motors – Inland Division and was co-owner of Dynamic Technologies Inc. and MTH Hydraulic Services in Dayton.

He enjoyed antiquing and gardening with his wife. He also enjoyed taking care of his property and rental properties. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 409 East Main Street, Troy, OH. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 101 Riverside Drive, Troy, OH.  Family will receive friends from 9:00 – 10:30 AM on Saturday at Baird Funeral Home, 555 North Market Street, Troy, OH.
