Holly Jean Stanfel Obituary

Holly Jean Stanfel of Troy, passed away on January 3, 2026 at the age of 79. She was born in Detroit and predeceased by her parents, Glen and Margaret Race of Royal Oak.


Holly grew up in Royal Oak, and after graduating from Kimball High School she went to Oakland University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After receiving her teaching certification, she started her teaching career at Northwood Elementary School, where she spent most of her 30 years before retirement. While teaching at Northwood, Holly earned an additional 30 credit hours at Oakland University to learn additional skills. Holly was an avid reader and enjoyed her many hobbies of quilting, sewing, gardening and enjoyed being with family members and loving the company of her dogs.


Holly is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years Greg, her son Jason (Peggy) Stanfel, grandsons, Nicholas Stanfel, Gavin Stanfel, Aaron Stanfel, and Casey Stanfel, as well as by great-grandson Griffin Jibson. She is also survived by her brothers Gary Race, Keith (Doreen) Race, nieces Dayna (Marc) Race-Fabrey, Kyle (Ryan) Race-McCLarnon, Katherine Race, and nephews Adam (Stephanie) Stanfel and Glen (Anna) Race.


Holly’s cremated remains will be interred in the Military Section at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak and the time and date when that will take place will be made known to family and friends.
