_______________________________________________________________
Diane Marie Taylor passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026. She was welcomed home by her loving husband, Gary “Gus” Taylor; her brother, Doug; and her beloved parents, Eugene and Josephine Witt. She is survived by brothers Dan Witt (Sally) and Paul Witt (Theresa); sisters Karen German (Cal) and Marilyn Tampke (Scott); numerous nieces and nephews.
Diane was born on May 21, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska, and was raised in a loving, faith-filled home that shaped the values she carried throughout her life. She attended Christ the King Elementary School and Duchesne Academy, graduating from Westside High School before heading to Lincoln. At the University of Nebraska, Diane studied business and graduated prepared—and determined—to make her mark on the world.
Her professional journey began in corporate management with K-Mart, where her work ethic and natural leadership quickly stood out. As her responsibilities grew, her career took her to Hastings, Nebraska—where fate had something far greater planned than another Blue-Light Special. It was there that Diane met the love of her life, Gus. Best friends from the start, they shared a deep and joyful bond. They eventually got married in 1990.If ever two people were meant for one another, it was Diane and Gus.
Diane later moved into the insurance industry at Marcotte, where her intelligence, confidence, and no-nonsense approach propelled her forward in a male-dominated field. Refusing to accept limitations, she rose through the ranks and ultimately became a partner in the firm, earning widespread respect throughout the industry. Even beyond her professional success, Diane was a lifelong learner and an avid reader, always eager to grow, understand, and engage.
Diane was so much more than her accomplishments. She was a devoted volunteer who generously shared her time and talents, including service on the Duchesne Academy Alumni Board. She lived the Sacred Heart values—faith, intellect, community, and action—not just in word, but in daily practice.
Above all else, Diane was fun! To her many nieces and nephews, she was proudly known as “the cool aunt.” She loved live music, spirited conversations, and time spent with family and friends. Crisp fall days, tailgates, and Husker victories were among her treasured traditions. Nature held a special place in her heart, reflected in the wooded beauty of her homes in Ponca Hills and her last home. And if there was a place that truly captured her joy, it was Okoboji—where laughter flowed freely, friendships deepened, and her infectious laugh and sharp humor were always on full display.
In the final years of her life, Diane faced numerous health challenges. She met each one with courage, grace, humor, and unwavering faith. Her deep spiritual beliefs carried her through adversity, grounding her in the knowledge that she was never alone. Even in the hardest moments, her spirit and love never wavered.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Bloom Companion Care, whose compassion, respect, and friendship meant so much to Diane. They also wish to thank St. Croix Hospice for the comfort and dignity they provided during her final days.
Diane lived a life deeply rooted in faith and richly filled with love, laughter, and purpose. Her legacy lives on in the stories we share, the laughter we echo, and the love we continue to give—just as she taught us.
