It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Deirdre Giatrakis, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 80. She was married to her devoted husband, James Giatrakis, for nearly 60 years, and together they shared a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories.
Deirdre and James made Stroudsburg their home for 54 years, where she was an active member of the community. She sang in the choir at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Stroudsburg and for a time was also an engaged member of the Philoptichos Society. Her faith and devotion to her community were central to her life.
In her free time, Deirdre enjoyed bird watching, gardening, crafting, and spending time outdoors. She found peace and happiness on her porch, often surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Deirdre was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Claire McClellan, her sister, Claudia, and sister-in-law Mary Markis.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Giatrakis; her children, Peter Giatrakis (spouse: Michelle Giatrakis, daughter: Elizabeth Giatrakis) and Melinde Martin (spouse: Brit Martin, daughters: Ariana and Despina Martin); her sister, Wendy Wade (spouse: Richard Wade, children: Peter Wade, Amy Haas [spouse: Jonathan Haas]); and her brother-in-law, George Giatrakis. She is also survived by her niece, Anne Weidenbaum, and her great-nephews, Alexander Weidenbaum (spouse: Deisi Weidenbaum, children: Scarlett, Stephanie), and Sarah Weidenbaum.
Deirdre will be deeply missed for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday January 10, 2026, at 11:00am at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church 135 Stokes Ave. Stroudsburg, PA 18360 with Fr. Konstantinos Koutroubas as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Greek section of Stroudsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30am until the time of the services at the church.
