Mei E. Zhang Obituary

Mei E Zhang was born in Shanghai China to Lian Hui Pan and Shen Yu Zhang on February 13, 1927. Her family was deeply Catholic. The family had 3 daughters and 5 sons. Her early education was at Catholic schools taught by French nuns. Her faith gave the strength to live through the Japanese invasion of China, the Communist Revolution, and the Cultural Revolution. She married Qing Lian Chen, a Fudan University College of Business Administration professor, and raised 2 children, Yun Jie Chen(deceased) and Yun Hua Chen-Monica Good.

In 2005 she came to Cincinnati to help raise her granddaughter, Angela. Angela is a 3rd year student at the University of Notre Dame. From 2005 to 2025 she lived with her daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law, Monica, Angela, and John Good.


Mei E Zhang was very committed to helping the family, doing Tai Chi, and flower gardening.


She was a role model for everyone with her wisdom, kindness, resilience, and calmness. She is preceded in death by Theresa I-Jen Woltering, Fransis Chang etc. Survived by Lawrence Chang, Ping He, Mary Chang, and Lucy O’Quinn. Mei E Zhang’s final resting place will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
