Richard L. “Dick” VanArsdale, 91, passed away January 3, 2026.
Dick was born in Somerville and raised in Peapack Gladstone before moving to Hillsborough 57 years ago. He was a 1951 graduate of Bernards High School. Dick was employed as a splicing technician for NJ Bell Telephone for 41 years, retiring in 1994. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Dick was a parishioner of the Faith Lutheran Church for over 45 years. He was a retired member of the Peapack Gladstone Fire Department. Dick was the former commissioner of Hillsborough Dukes Pop Warner from 1984-1986. He spent many weekdays and weekends on the sidelines cheering for his son and grandchildren playing sports in college and high school. Dick enjoyed maintaining a meticulous lawn and riding his tractor. Dick’s favorite team was the NY Mets, which he shared with his son Scott. In his spare time, he enjoyed doing word searches and especially spending time with his wife, sons, daughter-in-law’s, grandchildren, and his family pet Piper. Dick will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Beryl (Titus) VanArsdale, sons Scott VanArsdale and his wife Diane and Duane VanArsdale and his wife Jill, a brother Edwin VanArsdale and his wife Eleanor, and three grandchildren Zachary, Makenzie, and Alexandra VanArsdale.
A celebration of life will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church at a later date. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville.
