Patricia Malinowski, 85, formerly of Austintown, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Malinowski, who passed away in August 2024. Their 65 years together reflected a true partnership, grounded in love, resilience, and a lifetime of shared memories.
Pat was the loving mother of Michael (Christine) and Michelle (Chad) Walker; devoted grandmother of Branden and Brianna Malinowski, and Kaylie and Alex Walker. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her parents, William and Pauline Jaworski, and her brother, Chuck Jaworski.
Pat was born and raised in Chicago, IL where she developed her lifelong sense of independence and generosity. As a young woman, she was active in Girl Scouts and worked as a lifeguard. After marrying Joe, Pat embraced the life of a military spouse, moving frequently as he served in the United States Marine Corps. Eventually, they made their home in Austintown in the early 1970s, where Pat devoted herself to raising her family and becoming deeply involved in her community.
Pat was a constant presence in her children’s lives, volunteering her time at their schools and supporting their many activities. She found joy in simple pleasures: bowling in her weekly league, spending countless evenings playing Bingo, and relaxing with her favorite cooking shows, even though her family joked that she faithfully watched every recipe yet she rarely made any of them. Her dedication to service continued for decades through her work with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a cause especially meaningful to her as a proud military spouse. Pat also volunteered for many years teaching RCIA classes at St. Christine.
As an avid reader, Pat always had a book within reach. She especially loved fantasy novels, with the Harry Potter series holding a special place in her heart. She also loved the theatre and spent many years as a season ticket holder at the Youngstown Playhouse. Miss Saigon held her top spot for a long time, until Hamilton came along.
In 2008, Joe and Pat relocated to Fort Mill, South Carolina, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They quickly became part of the “morning McDonald’s crew,” gathering with fellow retirees over breakfast to share laughter, stories, and conversation about anything and everything. It was there that she met Marjorie and Mario, friends who became especially dear to her.
Above all else, Pat’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to be together. One of her favorite traditions was the family’s annual trip to Hilton Head, a time filled with love, laughter, and memories that she held close to her heart.
The family will be hosting a funeral Mass at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the chapel at St Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.
