Joseph A. Gribbin of East Meadow, passed away on January 3, 2026 at the age of 45. Loving son of David and Maria Gribbin. Cherished brother of David (Christine) and Jennifer Barris (Kyle). Proud uncle of Tyler, Cole, Liam, Shane, and Madison. Adored nephew of Patti and Mark Janovsky, and Jimmy and Ellen Gribbin.
Since he was a child, Joseph had those extra qualities that couldn’t be taught – good looks, luck, and plenty of self-confidence. He grew out his thick black hair below his shoulders and wore it low in a braided ponytail. His facial hair was abundant but clean and tight from his cheeks to his chin. His astute smile had a hint of laughter behind it, like he knew something that you didn’t. He would watch life’s absurdities play out and find the comedy in each outcome. Those that took themselves too seriously were an endless source of amusement.
If life was a game to be played, then Joe concluded “a small bet on the side” always made it more interesting. A coin toss. A ring toss. Longshot parlays with huge payouts. All sporting events were up for grabs, but College Football made his eyes light up. Who was his favorite team? The winning team.
It’s hard to articulate how special he was. Aunt Sadie always said, “Joseph has a heart of gold.” He was kind, caring, and never hesitated to help those in need. He became David’s partner, as they did projects around the house. And he always put others ahead of himself, no matter what.
Self-doubt was never a part of his personality. If he wanted to do something, nothing held him back. The immense pride he had for America and his Irish/Italian heritage compelled him to design a dynamic canvas across his shoulders and down his back - two flags flying underneath the outstretched wings of an American Eagle with a Celtic Cross forming the spiritual backbone. It was an enduring testament to his character and beliefs, forever illustrating his skin.
Some might say Joseph was impulsive, but I would say he knew who he was and what he wanted. He lived according to his own instincts. Appreciated the love and support of his family, who always had his back. Treasured the time he spent with his niece and nephews. Left us too hold each other, until we can hold him again. Our tears are abundant, but I would wager he’s smiling somewhere. He always knew something we didn’t.
