Born on October 8, 1940, in Scott(s), Mississippi, to Sol Jackson Sr. and Elnora Thomas, Sol Jackson Jr. was a man whose life embodied perseverance, faith, and unwavering devotion to family. From his earliest days, he learned the value of hard work and the dignity it brings, lessons and examples he’s passed down to all who know him. Sol’s journey was one of dedication; he was inspiring, generous, resilient, and enduring.
Exemplifying principles of faith and order that guided every step of his life. 1960’s, Sol and his family relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he began working at Gibson Guitar and took on various other jobs to support those he loved. Ever devoted to his family, he fulfilled the promise he made to care for his mother and ensured the well-being of both his parents throughout their lives. Sol’s spiritual journey deepened in 1979 when he was baptized, embracing a lifelong relationship with the Lord. He became a dedicated and active member of Galilee Baptist Church, faithfully serving in many roles over the years—including Usher, Janitorial Supervisor, Transportation, as well as Food Donation Pickup and Delivery. In recognition of his steadfast dedication, he was awarded by The Galilee Baptist Church Men’s Ministry in September 2024 for Servant Leadership Throughout his working years,
Sol showcased remarkable versatility and an unmatched work ethic. He held many roles, including school bus driver, auto body repairman, concrete worker, mechanic, painter, landscaper, roofer, and plumber. He also worked in several paper and automotive factories, eventually retiring in 1997 from Portage Paper Company. Beyond his professional achievements, Sol was widely respected as a landlord in Kalamazoo, where he generously supported and uplifted his community.
Sol was preceded in death by his parents, Sol Jackson Sr. and Elnora Thomas; his sons, Randolf Carter (Randy) and Sol Jackson III (Poochie); and his five sisters, Velma Freeman, Dorothy Buie, Ruth Mae Davis, Willie Bell Anderson, and Dutchie Thomas.
He is lovingly survived by his life partner and friend, Carrie Richardson; his daughters, Tamarro Harrold and Aneshia Richardson; his stepdaughters, Bridget Richardson and Nicole Matthews; and a special acknowledgment to his step-grandson, DoRon Moore. He also leaves behind his nephew, Keith Davis Sr., and family, along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Saniyah Jackson, Sa ’Nai Richardson, Savon Reid, Terrence Jackson, Shakur Willis, and Daniel Carter, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, longtime friends, and his cherished church family.
Sol Jackson Jr. inspired everyone who knew him to live with integrity, strive for excellence, and hold fast to their faith. His life was a testament to love, perseverance, and devotion to the Lord, and he shared that light generously with all.
