Christopher Robert Lattanzi died at age 88 on November 12 at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto.

Christopher was born on April 17, 1937 in Melbourne, Australia to Nancy (Baird) and Mario Lattanzi. He

completed his secondary education at Xavier College, where he was named Dux (the top-ranked student)

of the school. After graduating university as a mining engineer, he worked for five years for the state

electricity commission in Victoria, Australia. In May 1961, he married Margaret Anne Kuhlmann, whom

he had known since childhood.

In 1965, Chris and Margaret packed up their young family for what was to be a working tour of the world.

The first stop was Canada – a visit that ended up lasting for 60 years. His first position in Canada was as

mine superintendent for the oil sands operations of what was then Great Canadian Oil Sands in Fort

McMurray, Alberta. He moved to Toronto and joined the geological and mining consultancy firm, David

S. Robertson & Associates Limited in 1967 where he eventually became vice-president. Chris had a

strong grasp of mineral economics, accounting and tax principles, skills that were put to good use as the

firm became known for its expertise in mineral property valuation. Clients included energy utility

companies and government agencies, as well as mining companies, in North and South America, Asia and

Australia.

In 1988, Chris became the founding President and lead director of Micon International Limited, formed

with five colleagues from Robertson & Associates. While he was succeeded as President in 2005, Chris

remained an integral member of Micon, leading its valuation and litigation support practices. He then

pursued opportunities as a corporate director with firms including Argonaut Gold Ltd., Meridian Gold

Corporation, Spanish Mountain Gold Ltd. and Teranga Gold Corporation. His expertise in accounting

principles and governance was valued as a member of audit committees and as lead director. While Chris

always worked with dedication and commitment, he enjoyed the associated travels and, at the end of the

day, a glass of red wine.

In his spare time, Chris liked to work on his stamp collection or on jigsaw puzzles with impossibly large

numbers of pieces. He enjoyed keeping up with current events and following the Blue Jays. He was a

loving father and grandfather, who also enjoyed social occasions with friends and colleagues.

Chris is survived by his children Michael and his wife Susan, Anna and her partner Colleen, Suzi and her

partner Bart and Alison her partner Alan; by his grandchildren Luke, Greta, Bart, Amy, Laura, Amanda,

Sam, Lucy and Asher; and by his great-grandchildren Margot and Elena. He is also survived by his sister

Maria and her husband Michael, his brothers-in-law Peter and John and his wife Rosanne, and by his

niece, Grania and his nephews, Matthew and Timothy. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret and his

sister, Grania.
