Richard “Rick” Carrell Todd
November 25, 1941 – November 12, 2025
Richard “Rick” Carrell Todd, 83, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and musician, Rick leaves behind a legacy of rhythm, laughter, and love that will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born on November 25, 1941, in North Vancouver, British Columbia, to Charles and Gertrude Todd, Rick grew up surrounded by music, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for life. Rick’s journey took him to Calgary in 1970 — a move that would shape his life in countless ways. It was there, in 1972, that he met the love of his life, Kathy Yanosik. The two shared 53 beautiful years together, building a home filled with laughter, music, and mutual devotion.
Rick’s passion for music was as boundless as his smile. As a professional drummer and percussionist, he traveled the world, performing across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Japan. His incredible talent led him to share the stage with notable acts such as Frank Mills, The Ames Brothers, and The Platters. A gifted songwriter, Rick wrote sixteen original songs and even appeared in the classic film *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid* in a small but memorable role as a drummer — a fitting reflection of his lifelong rhythm.
Beyond his musical achievements, Rick was a proud black belt in karate, an enthusiastic fitness advocate, and an inspiring storyteller. His warmth, humor, and nurturing spirit made everyone feel welcome in his presence. A devoted member of the Calgary Musicians Union and the National Association of Rudimental Drummers (NARD), Rick not only contributed to his art but supported the musical community that sustained him.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Yanosik; his sons, Troy (Brenda) Yanosik, Matthew (Linda) Todd, and Wayne Erickson; and his daughter, Teresa (John) Pardy. 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Marie Todd; and his parents, Charles and Gertrude; and great-granddaughter Ellianna.
Though no formal Memorial details have been announced, Rick’s family encourages those who knew him to celebrate his life in music, laughter, and kindness — the very qualities that defined him.
“Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him. For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods.”
Psalms 95:1-3 NLT
