Barbara June Drinkall
December 26, 1951 – November 11, 2025
Barbara June Drinkall—lovingly known as Barb, Barbie, Babs, Shuggie (Sugar), Big Momma, Ainga, and her greatest name, Mom—passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at the age of 73 years. Born on December 26, 1951, in Calgary, Alberta, Barbara lived a life filled with warmth, generosity, and boundless love.
She is survived by her devoted sisters, Nancy and Kathy; her loving children, Christopher (Serena), Paul, and Sara (Bryan); and her cherished grandchildren—Jack, Maverik, Strider, Oliver, Aulora, Easton, Juliella, and Davian—each of whom brought her immense joy.
She is also survived by her “ride-or-die” friends—Bob, Dan, Debbie, Donna, and Kathy who stood by her through life’s joys, challenges, and everything in between.
Along with numerous nieces and nephews, Shawn (Janis), Quincy, Vanessa, Leland (Sheri), Chelsea (Cam), Stephen (Ashley), Jennifer, Jeffrey, Gregory and Timothy, and numerous extended family and friends, including Marijan, Ralph, Brenda, and Sheryl.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dave; father, Harry; mother, Bertha; and her brother, Tom, all of whom she held dearly in her heart.
Barbara was a woman who embraced life with open arms. She delighted in travelling, reading, shopping, and long phone calls that could brighten anyone’s day. She even found joy in simple routines—like vacuuming—turning everyday moments into expressions of care. Above all, she treasured time spent with her friends and family, the people who energized her spirit and whom she loved fiercely.
Barbara was proud of her 35 years of service with RBC, a place where she made many lifelong friends.
Those who knew Barbara remember her as the most loving, caring, and beautiful soul. She taught everyone around her to love deeply and without judgement. Her inclusiveness was unwavering; she made certain no one was ever left out, and she had a remarkable way of making each person feel seen and valued. Barbara’s life was a testament to putting others first, showing up wholeheartedly (though invariably late!) and being truly present.
Her legacy will live on in the countless hearts she touched, in the laughter she shared, and in the love, she gave so freely.
May her memory be a blessing and a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In honor of her birthday, the family invites friends, family and all who knew her to save the date of Friday, December 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, at Abbeydale Community Hall (821 Abbeydale Drive NE, use the East entrance, yellow door with stars on it, from the parking lot) for a Celebration of Barbara’s Life.
There will be snacks, drinks, cash bar (if you’re feeling like an adult beverage) and—of course—birthday cake!
Feel free to stop by for a short visit or stay for the entire afternoon—whatever feels right for you. This is an open invitation to anyone who knew our mom and would like to join us.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s honor to the Canadian Cancer Society.
