It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Adina Elizabeth Harrison-White. Born in St Mary, Jamaica, West Indies to the late Lynette Medley and Joseph Harrison. Adina was the second eldest of her siblings. She is pre-deceased by all her siblings with the exception of a brother Kenneth Hall.
Adina married Lebert Norman White on August 13, 1952. The union produced 9 children. The career path of dressmaking, cooking and baking provided a lot of energy and motivation for Adina. Her competence, particularly in baking and cooking, like the “Piped Piper” drew a lot of children to her home. Her greatest accomplishment was that of being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and aunt to many nieces and grandnieces.
Adina was loved by everyone and she inspired those who knew her. She was a passionate woman with a heart for loving people. One of her favorite sayings was ‘Only salvation lasts forever’. Adina received her spiritual grounding from multiple places. Initially from St John’s Methodist Church in Montego Bay as a young adult and in the latter part of her sojourn in Jamaica, Faith Temple Assembly of God, Montego Bay where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Her adventurous spirit propelled her to the United States in 1990 to join her daughters and grandchildren. She continued to make yearly visits to Jamaica until her health deteriorated. While active in New York, she worshiped at The Brooklyn Tabernacle. When it became difficult for her to attend church, she would listen to gospel music and services on the radio and television and became even more animated by the visits from her church community. Reading the Bible was very important to her and when she could not, she frequently asked her caregivers to read to her. Mrs. White realized, lived and experienced that community of love. The spirituality demonstrated by this matriarch revealed that she was resting in God’s hands and so without a fuss, she gracefully crossed over into God’s loving arms.
As her soul rests, she leaves behind to cherish her memory, brother (Kenneth Hall), children (Mable predeceased), Norman, Vilma, Jane, Marjorie, Blossom, Margaret, Claudia and Marilyn, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, grand nieces, an extended family and a host of friends.
Forever in our hearts…
