David W. Hailey was called to eternal Heavenly rest on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newport News, Virginia. He was born on June 1, 1955, to the late Wardell Hailey and Jacquelyn Braxton Marrow.
At an early age, he joined Shiloh Baptist Church, where he remained a dedicated and faithful member until his health began to decline. He will always be remembered by his church family for his big smile and kind heart.
David was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, graduating from Lafayette High School with the Class of 1975. David retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation after 30-plus years of service, serving alongside his good friend Carlton Morris.
He was also a devoted Washington Commanders football fan.
He is also preceded in death by his grandmother, Gussie Judkins; sister, Elnora Rhodell; brothers, Don Hailey and Darrin Hailey; nephew, Pierre Cotton; stepsisters, Janie Braxton and Joyce Braxton.
He leaves to cherish his memories with his sisters, Joan H. Crump, Brenda H. Black (Tony), Linda Hailey, and Cleo Hailey; brother Bryant Hailey (Denise); stepfather, Rev. George Marrow Sr., stepsisters, Roslin Braxton, Roselee Armstead (Phil), and Carolyn Cary (John); stepbrothers, Micheal Marrow (Cleveland) and George Marrow Jr.; aunts, Lois Jones and Theresa Piggott; uncle Louis Carter (Tywanna); devoted aunt Hazel Pierce; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate David's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025, with a viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Whiting's Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
