Margaret McRory (nee Farenholtz)

September 28, 1936 – November 12, 2025

Mom passed away quietly and on her own terms at KLDH surrounded by her children. At the news of impending acute kidney failure due to cancer, all her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered to be with her to share the love we had for her and say our last goodbyes. She is reunited with her beloved husband Donald McRory (2003).

A 1958 St. Paul’s Hospital Nursing graduate, Mom carried over her nursing skills and practices to everyday life. She was proud to be part of the team of nurses who ran the pilot program for BC Home Health Care. She was an athlete, a gardener, a seamstress, a quilter and enjoyed bridge for years. Always staying in touch and connected with her family, she prided herself on her independence, living on her own until the end.

Born in Nelson along with her six siblings, she was predeceased by her parents Helmut and Astrid, her sisters Evelyn and Jeanette, and survived by her brothers Alfred, Earl, Douglas, their spouses and sister Lorna. As well as dear cousins, Linda, Mel (Betty) and Tom (Kristi).

We, the family, would like to thank the doctors and nurses at KLDH for the dignity and respect you gave her in her final days and for forgiving the noise and ruckus we made on the 3rd floor, including a family choir rendition of You are My Sunshine. Children: Doug & Rosanne, Rob & Verna, Louise & Kelly and Danny & Jane. Grandchildren and partners: Rachel & Sam, Gillian & Mitch, Peter & Chelsey, Shannon & James, Keifer & Caitlin, Morgan & Chelsea, Shawn and Kyle. Great-Grandchildren: William, Halle and Ava.

A private service will be held at a later date in Nelson. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation in Marg’s honour would be lovely.
