Elizabeth “Beth” Ann Smith, age 66, of Houghton Lake, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2025, in Grayling, Michigan.

Beth was born on June 9, 1959, in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of Charles and Shirley (DeConick) Oldenburg.

Beth loved spending time at the beach and on the water. She enjoyed relaxing in the sun and taking care of her flowers and many plants. She is well known for her ownership of North Shore Hardware and she was devoted to the business for over 30 years.

She was very knowledgeable about so many hardware projects and needs, whether it be plumbing or other home repairs. Beth would do all she could to accommodate and assist people with their projects and home renovations. She will be remembered for her sincere interest in people. Beth was a people person and enjoyed her time socializing with her customers and the people she met at the hardware. She was very generous and a good friend to many. When she retired from the hardware, she was happy to be able to work for a while at the Four Seasons party store just down the road. She had many other interests such as baking, sewing, and her cats, but her biggest passion was her daughter, Stephanie.

Beth will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Blane) Janssen of Kansas; sister, Mary Katherine “Katy” (Kelly) Green of Pennsylvania; nephew, Forrest Green of Pennsylvania; sister, Cindy Oldenburg of Florida; sister-in-law, Karen (Dan) Stiff; and many close friends.

Beth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robroy “Robb” Smith; her brother, Robert Oldenburg; and her nephew, Paul Green.

Family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Markey Township Hall, 7400 E. Houghton Lake Drive, Houghton Lake, Michigan 48629.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Beth’s name to the Ausable Valley Animal Shelter, Roscoe Rescue, or surrounding no-kill animal shelters.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
