Dennis Ronald Christensen Obituary

Dennis Ronald Christensen

1947-2025

With great sorrow the family wishes to announce that Dennis Christensen, late of Weyburn, SK and formerly of Lampman and Rosebud, AB passed away quickly during his second bout with cancer on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 78 years.

He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 52 years, Betty who will miss his words of encouragement; son Calvin (Jess and children) - Alexis and Keara; son Brad (Tammy) - Grace, Madeline and Laura; brothers, Howard, Milt (Diane), Tom (Donna), Glen (Bonnie) and sister-in-law Kay Dahl and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Elna Christensen; brother Norval Dahl; parents-in-law Marinus and Hendrieka Van Laar and sister-in-law Gertrude Fassnidge.

Dennis Ronald Christensen was born September 29, 1947 in Innisfail, AB.

He grew up in the Spruce View area, the second son of Oscar and Elna’s six sons. Highlights of his youth included family gatherings with his cousins and 4-H. He was a strong supporter of 4-H public speaking.

In 1969 he moved to Rosebud, AB to become manager of the Rosebud Seed Cleaning Plant. In Rosebud he met Betty Van Laar, whom he married in 1973. They raised their two sons on the Van Laar family farm. In 2006, they moved with their sons and their families, equipment, cattle, tools, etc. to Lampman, SK to expand their farming operation.

In both AB and SK Dennis thrived on serving his community by being on church boards, Lions Club (51 years) and the R.M. of Browning (13 years). He had a talent for running timely and efficient meetings according to protocol when being a chairman, president or zone chairman.

In his recreational time, Dennis enjoyed camping, curling and travelling – especially cruising.

He enjoyed all aspects of his life until frontal lobe dementia created so much anxiety and moments of illogical thinking that he had to give up “everything” but camping. Dennis and Betty spent a wonderful 91 days at their seasonal site last summer.

Dennis had a very strong, but quiet religious faith, like his father. These religious values made him a hardworking man with integrity. Being honest, true, faithful and on time were important values to him.

A Memorial service was held at Faith Lutheran Church, Lampman, SK on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sharon Kane presiding.  A luncheon at the Royal Canadian Legion, Lampman branch followed the service.

The livestream and video recording of the service can be accessed here.
