Ronald E. Provost, 94, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, in Glenville, New York. Born on March 16, 1931, in the quiet town of Newton Falls, New York, Ron was the youngest of thirteen children, to the late Zevia and Evelina (Bedour) Provost.
Ron's early life in the North Adirondacks was one of simple joys and close-knit community values. He attended Clifton-Fine High School, graduating in 1951, and soon after, his sense of duty led him to serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged in 1955, Ron encountered a new chapter of love and companionship when he met Elinor Cunningham. They were married on June 30, 1956, embarking on a journey together that would last a lifetime.
Professionally, Ron was a man of ambition and dedication. After working in Glendale, California, he returned to his roots in New York, taking a position at Mohawk Paper Co. in Waterford. His career path later led him to Sybron Co. as a medical technician representative, before he took the entrepreneurial leap to become the proud owner of R.E.P Equipment Service Inc. from 1979 until his well-deserved retirement in 1993.
His love for his family was immeasurable, and he is fondly remembered by his loving wife, Elinor Provost; nieces and nephews, Gary (Barb) Cunningham, Maureen Hodgson, John Cunningham, Matthew Cunningham, Debbie Stark Stevens, Bonnie (Carl) Malady, and their families. His nephew Charles Stevens, Craig Hodgson, and his twelve siblings preceded him in death. Ron is also survived by many friends, including Moe Geer.
Elinor and Ron were adventurers at heart, sharing a passion for the great outdoors. They created countless memories camping on Lake George, enjoying their beautiful camp on Sacandaga Lake surrounded by family, and traveling on cruises. For two decades, they embraced the snowbird lifestyle in Venice, Florida, escaping the New York winters. Ron was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ron was a devoted horse racing fan and attended 40 opening days at the Saratoga Race Course, his familiar face and thoughtful nature made him an honorary member of the community there.
Family and friends are welcome to the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. On Tuesday, November 25th, from 11 AM to 12 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12 PM. Procession to Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery will follow; military service begins at 2 PM.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Glendale Nursing Home for their compassionate care for Ron. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sacandaga Protection Committee, P.O. Box 86, Mayfield, NY 12117.
