Joyce Aldrich Obituary

ROXBURY: Joyce Aldrich, 82, died unexpectedly at her Roxbury home on Wednesday November 12.

Joyce (a.k.a. Mom, Ma, Mumma, Grammie and Bubblebutt) was born in Skowhegan, ME on June 2, 1943, the daughter of Jack and Helena (Greenlaw) Abbott. She enjoyed working in the cafeteria at the Mountain Valley High School / RSU10 for several years, retiring in 2009.

Joyce married Stephen Aldrich in West Paris, ME on May 21, 1983 and they shared many adventures until Steve passed away on August 19, 2025.

Born into a large family, Joyce grew up knowing the importance of loving and caring for family. These treasured lessons and values were lived out every day of her life through her dedication to her kids and grandkids. Her absence leaves a deep void for her family and friends who were blessed by her fierce love and commitment.

Joyce enjoyed all the wonders that living in Maine offered - camping (especially with grandkids), boating (especially with grandkids), visiting parks and other Maine landmarks (especially with grandkids)... are you noticing a trend? She loved - and was dearly loved by - her grandkids.

She is survived by her daughter Debi Pfaffenberger and husband Thomas of Rome City, IN, son Daniel Johnson and wife Brenda of Leeds, step-daughters, Shari Smith of Colorado Springs, Shelly Davidson and husband John of West Paris, and Stephanie Aldrich of Fayette. Additionally, Joyce is survived by her sisters, Nancy Rowley and husband Harold of Peru, Jackie Whitman of Dixfield, Judy Frank of Carthage, Beverly Chasse of Greene, brothers, Milford Abbott and wife Roseanna of Dixfield and Donald Abbott and wife Kaye of Dixfield. Joyce dearly loved her 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Scot and sisters, Pat Howard and Roseanne Ross.

Friends and family are invited to share memories of Joyce at www.meaderandson.com. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a memorial gift to 1.4.3. Wellness Hub in Rumford, Maine, a nonprofit wellness center founded by her granddaughter.

We hope family and friends will join us in Celebrating our mother's life on Friday, November 28th 12pm-4pm, in the private banquet room at Gippers Sports Grill, 120 Center Street, Auburn ME.
