Susan Marie Mattern Obituary

In loving memory of a devoted mother, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a remarkable women who gave her entire life to her children.

She was born August 21, 1956, in Youngstown, daughter of Vince Delcolle and Dorothy Arwilla Brant, and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1974.

She was taken from us far too soon, just as she had begun to embrace life, she always deserved with her beloved husband Samuel Mattern.

Their love was a testament to patience, resilience, and joy, a partnership that brought her peace and happiness in her final chapter.

She was the proud mother of three daughters who were her world: Christina Hornick, her firstborn.

Jessie Cala, married to Patrick; Lisa Flores-Bahena, married to Jonatan. Her love extended beyond her children to her cherished grandchildren, each of whom brought light to her life: Hunter and Pierce Delongchamp, and Daphne Hornick; Ava Cala and Izabella Cala; Celeste Flores and Selena Flores.

Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.

She poured her heart into raining her family, sacrificing without hesitation and loving without condition. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.

She taught her children the meaning of strength, kindness, and perseverance, and those lessons will live on through generations.

Though her time with us was far too short, her legacy is immeasurable. She leaves behind a family bound by her love, and memories that will forever echo in our hearts.

We take comfort in knowing she is at peace, watching over us with the same devotion she showed every day of her life.

Susan also leaves her brothers Vince Delcolle and Ed and Steve Powrie.

She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy and her father who raised her William “Bill” Powrie and her brother Charles Delcolle, and granddaughter Vanessa.

Susan will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St. Boardman.
