Herbert Arthur Chin

Herbert “Herb” Arthur Chin, 78, of Indian Land, SC passed away on November 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.   He was born on April 1, 1947, in Falmouth, Jamaica to the late Henry Levy Chin and Edith Chang.

Herb received his PhD in chemical engineering (metallurgy) at the University of Florida. He was an Aerospace engineer and Senior Fellow at Pratt & Whitney for 34.5 years in East Hartford, CT. He was happily married to the love of his life, Lily Chin, for 52 years.

He had a passion for many different hobbies that included photography, being outdoors as he enjoyed riding on the greenway, hiking, fishing, exploring nature, cooking, spending time with family and documenting his family’s history.

Herb will be remembered as a loving spouse to his wife Lily, a devoted father and grandfather, as well as a devoted friend. He believed life’s voyage is a journey, not the destination, emphasizing the experience and growth along the way. Much can be gained from embracing the unknown, facing challenges and finding meaning in the process rather than focusing on the end goal. Life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it. Experience is the teacher of all things. He was also a devoted man of the Catholic faith.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Lily Chin, his adoring children Karen and Matthew Zink (daughter and son in law), Nick and Christina Chin (son and daughter in law), and his precious grandchildren, Evie, Lena, Brie, Mae Mae, Huddy, and new grandson due in December.

There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 10:45AM in the Chapel at St. Matthew Catholic Church.
