Francis Steighner Obituary

Francis “Fran” Steighner, 91, of Herman, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, after a life rich with family, faith, and craftsmanship.

Born on January 2, 1934, in Butler, PA, to the late Harry and Margaret (Dadowski) Steighner. For many years he worked at Pullman Standard until its closure, then completed his career as a skilled painter.

A lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church and the RC Men’s Club. He crafted beautiful woodworking projects, delighted in solving jigsaw puzzles as a dedicated dissectologist, and cherished lively conversations with family and friends.

Fran is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Joan (Hutchison) Steighner; his children, Darlene Donoghue, Francis Jr. Steighner, Sherry (Dave) Ackerlund, and Joy (Brian) Loska; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a cherished extended family. Along with his parents, Fran was preceded in death by his beloved two sisters, five brothers and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church – Saint Francis of Assisi Parish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Lutheran Senior Life/VNA. Burial will be held privately.
