Mr. Earl Mitchum, age 79, of Lyons, died Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. He was a native of Toombs County, living there most of his life and attended Lyons High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving one tour of duty in Vietnam and was a paratrooper. He was a builder and carpenter most of life, working for several construction companies, including Harry Moses Construction. He was also a self-employed builder. He was a former member of Vidalia-Lyons Moose Lodge #1281, and Earl enjoyed the outdoors, dancing, and the Ohoopee River.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Mitchum and Georgia Colbert Mitchum; and four siblings, Johnny Mitchum, Billy Jones, Ruth Mitchum Williamson, and Bobbie Mitchum.
He is survived by three children, Anthony Mitchum and wife Delaina, Amanda Mitchum and Jeremy Turner, all of Vidalia, and Michael Mitchum of Toombs County; eleven grandchildren, Bradley Moye and fiancé Jovanna, Matt Moye, Morgan Moye, Ian Moye, Breanna Butler and husband Devin, Tyler Mitchum and wife Amber, Madison Mitchum, Sydney Mitchum, Memphis Mitchum, Grayson Mitchum, and Lance Mitchum, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home on Wednesday morning, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 until just prior to the memorial service at 11:00 with Pastor Joseph Thompson officiating. Military honors will follow.
