George Joseph Muneio Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 11, 1948, in Detroit, MI, George grew up to become a man of integrity and valor. He brightened the lives of everyone who knew him. After proudly serving his country as a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, George transitioned to a career that reflected his love for precision and reliability. He joined the ranks of CSX as a railroad engineer, where his dedication to the safety and wellbeing of others was his top priority as he ran the company’s well known drug and alcohol program, Redblock. His commitment to excellence saw him rise to the position of yard master in Tampa, FL, a role in which he retired, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and care.
Retirement did not slow George down; instead, it gave him the opportunity to pursue his passion for golf. His love for the game later led him to work for River Strand, where he became one of the most beloved starters at the club. His infectious enthusiasm and spirited nature made him a favorite among the golfing community. George’s zest for life extended beyond the greens.
He was a devoted Christian who lived his faith every day, inspiring others with his steadfast spirit and generous heart. Many friends and family affectionately called him “Georgie Porgy, ” a nickname that captured his playful spirit and the warmth he brought into every room. He found joy in tending to his yard, fixing things around the house, and spending hours on his patio becoming a renowned pitmaster among his family. George’s brisket was legendary and he had a skill for bringing people together through good food and warm hospitality. One of his greatest joys in the recent years was spending time working on his son’s ranch. Family was the cornerstone of George’s life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Deborah Muneio; his daughter, Dawn Eriksen; and his sons, Shawn and Chris Muneio. George was a devoted grandfather to Ella, Ethan, Makayla, Cole, Maxim, and Eli, each of whom brought immense joy and pride into his life. His guidance, love, and courage will continue to live on in them.
