SACO – Jean Shore-Cabral, age 97, passed away on November 12, 2025 at home surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born in Lynn, Mass on July 18, 1928, the only child of George Arnold Shore and Octavia Louise Angers. She attended public schools in Middleboro, Mass and at the age of 14 was given special permission by the superintendent of schools to arrive late to school so she could help her grandfather deliver milk to local residents, by driving the horse-drawn wagon.
Jean met Alfred Cabral at a high school football game and it was love at first sight. Al joined the Navy Seabees and the couple were married shortly before Christmas of 1944. Several months later he was shipped overseas to fight in Okinawa, Japan in World War II. Following the war, Jean and Al raised their family of four; they lived in Taunton and Berkley, Mass and later moved with their two youngest to North Anson, Maine, purchasing a dairy farm.
When her children were grown, Jean became a real estate agent and later worked in the Sheriff's Department, both in Somerset County, Maine. She was always active in politics, becoming the State Committeewoman for the Somerset County Republican Party. She had the honor of being invited to the wedding reception of Maine Governor John McKernan and Congresswoman Olympia Snowe in March of 1989. One of her happiest political moments was shaking hands with the soon-to-be President Bill Clinton at a campaign event in Portland.
Jean had a love of animals and always had dogs as companions. When Jean moved to southern Maine, her canine friends were always rescued from the Animal Welfare Society of Kennebunk.
When Jean wasn't walking her dogs or engaged in political discussions with one of her children, she loved to cook and bake. She made a countless number of pies, prompting her husband to say the amount of pies she baked “would stretch from here to the moon!”
Jean was quick with a smile, warm and compassionate, and loved her family and animals. She also enjoyed playing cards; a good game of rummy or hearts.
Jean lived a good life and will be deeply missed. She is predeceased by her daughter Patsy. She is survived by her dogs, Bambi and Lucy (Lulu), her son Al of Greenville, SC, her son David Cabral of Murphreesboro, TN and her son Daniel (and wife Audrey) of Saco. Her ashes will be interred in a private burial next to her husband's remains at Gibbs Memorial Cemetery in Somerset, Mass.
