Jane L. Guscott, 84, of Hazleton, died Wednesday morning at The Pavilion in St Luke Village, Hazleton where she had been a guest for the past 3 years.
Born in Hazleton, November 27, 1940 she was the daughter of the late John L. and Edith (Labarr) Tormay and spent most of her life in the area.
A 1958 graduate of Hazleton High School, Jane went on to earn her nursing degree in 1961 from Albert Einstein Nursing School in Philadelphia. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from King’s College in 1989.
Early on, Jane worked at Albert Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hazleton before being employed by the former Lutheran Home, currently St. Luke Pavilion, where she served as Director of Nursing from 1987 to 1992. She then took employment at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital before returning to St. Luke Pavilion where she stayed until retirement.
Jane had a passion for being a nurse and for caring for others. She was an accomplished artist who loved to paint with oil and water colors and she enjoyed spending time on the course golfing with her husband and friends.
She is only preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her husband of 36 years, George Guscott; son David Chaya and his wife Susan of Spring Hill, FL; son Robert J. Chaya and his wife Cynthia of Duncannon; daughter Jennifer L. Guscott of Beach Mountain; Audra L. Shelko and her husband Aric of Del Ray Beach, FL and son George T. Guscott of Nuremburg. Also surviving are grandchildren David J. Chaya, Ruthanne Connors, Andrew R. Chaya, Jonathan Chaya, Chloe Shelko, John Shelko and Zachary Chaya along with 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 12:00 noon at the Krapf & Hughes Funeral Home – Crematory, 530 West Butler Drive, Drums. Pastor Wayne Lowe of the Road to Emmaus Presbyterian Church, Linglestown, will preside.
Friends and family may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning for a viewing period that will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until time of service.
