Leonard Sam DeCarlo, 77, of Palm Beach County, Florida, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born in 1947 in Cleveland, “Lenny” graduated from Bedford High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. A Vietnam veteran, he carried deep pride for his service and spoke often—with honor and gratitude—about his time in the Marines. He was honorably discharged after faithfully fulfilling his duty.

Following his military service, he continued a life of dedication and service as a police officer for the cities of Bedford and Reminderville, Ohio. After moving to Florida, he worked for Palm Beach County Waste Management, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and kind spirit. He later retired from the county, leaving behind many friends who admired his steady, good-natured character.

Lenny was known for his sweet disposition, warm smile, and the way he made others feel at ease. Everyone who met him loved him. His family will forever remember him as a hardworking man who led with quiet strength, loyalty, and love. The family children lovingly called him “Mr. Magoo” or “Eeyore,” nicknames that reflected both his endearing personality and the affection they felt for him. Everyone who knew him loved him, and he made each person feel welcomed and loved.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Sue DeCarlo; his sister, Lee Ann Mancini (Guy); his sister-in-law, Nancy DeCarlo; and many beloved nieces and nephews who cherished him deeply. He now joins in heaven his brothers Joe and Frank DeCarlo, as well as his mother, Lena (Nina) DeCarlo, who preceded him in death. 

A Private Family ceremony will be held to honor Lenny’s life and legacy. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory, supporting the heroes he cared so much about.
