Randy “Yogi” Huggler, 66, of Sharpsville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday November 12, 2025, at his home. He was born in Kokomo on July 28, 1959, the son of Joe and Sue Huggler.
Yogi was a 1977 graduate of Tri-Central High School and a 1983 graduate of Ball State University with a degree in Journalism. He had a long career as a sportswriter and editor at several newspapers in Indiana, Illinois, and Arizona, retiring in 2021. Beginning at the Tipton Tribune, he also worked at newspapers in Linton, Muncie, Columbus, Connersville, Greenwood, and Elwood in Indiana, Effingham, Illinois, and Prescott, Casa Grande, and Bullhead City in Arizona.
Yogi had a life-long passion for baseball, as a player, coach, umpire and fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals. Yogi enjoyed playing golf, photography, trips to Arizona, and family gatherings.
Yogi is survived by his mother, Sue Huggler of Kokomo; siblings, Lyndall (Betsy Seiders) Huggler of Pittsburgh, and Linda Huggler of Kokomo; niece, Kimberly (Andrew Rashoff) Huggler of St. Louis; and nephew, Jason Huggler of Monroe, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Huggler, in January.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 pm Monday November 17, 2025, at Stout & Son Funeral Home – Sharpsville Chapel, 204 N. Church St., Sharpsville, IN 46068. A funeral service celebrating Yogi’s life will begin at 11 am Tuesday November 18, 2025, at the funeral home with Pastor Heather Holman officiating. Burial will follow in Sharpsville Cemetery.
