William Ray “Bill” Howard, 77, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in High Point on January 12, 1948 to the late Bennie and Fanny Howard, Bill lived a life filled with hard work, devotion, and deep love for his family and community.

A proud Vietnam veteran, Bill faithfully served his country and carried that same sense of dedication into everything he did.  He worked for many years at Harris Teeter, Lowes Hardware, and Chuck Electric, always known for his strong work ethic and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Bill found great joy tending to his yard and garden and was happiest outdoors, at the beach, fishing or helping a neighbor.  To his family and friends, he was more than a husband, father, and grandfather — he was “Dad” or “Pawpaw” to everyone who knew him.  His kindness, humor, and steady presence touched countless lives.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol Howard; his son, David Howard (Mandy); his daughter, Melissa Byerly (Tyler); grandchildren, Kevin (Kaitlin), Kristian (Zane), Ethan (Bri), Mary June, Lauren, and Christian; and great-grandchildren, Keilyn, Kynleigh, Kayne, William, and Oaklyn.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to their special neighbors — Barbara, Robby, Bina, and Jane — for always being there when needed. A special thank you also goes to his HHA, Angelina, for her loving care, and to the compassionate team at Amedisys for their patience and kindness in keeping Bill and his family comfortable.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and devotion that will live on in all who knew him. He was the absolute best Daddy, Pawpaw, Uncle, and friend, and he will be dearly missed.

Funeral Services will be held 2 pm Monday November 17, 2025 at Allendale Baptist Church with the Reverend David Younger officiating.  Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park.  The family will greet friends Sunday evening at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale from 5 until 7 pm.
